This year so far, it’s been one of discovery in the beauty tools realm. I had always relied on my trusty Real Techniques brushes to get the job done, and they do it rather well. However, after countless hours of YouTube, watching brushes in action and having words such as ‘Sigma’ and ‘Zoeva’ thrown around, followed by phrases like ‘you need dis’, I decided to branch out. And boy, oh boy, I am glad I did.
These three babies are some of the latest additions to my brush collection that I am loving – you guessed it… you need dem.
Zoeva 102/Silk Finish Brush, $22.75
This is the most amazing, incredible, luscious foundation brush I have ever used. Big claims, I know; but I feel satisfied the hunt for The One is over, as this baby blends any liquid base in a split second like an absolute dream. It is densely packed, made with vegan bristles and there are no streaks to be seen; it buffs your base in so well, that it looks just like skin. The brush feels luxurious – it’s got a bit of weight to it, it feels stable and comfortable to hold, and it’s so soft.
I had spent way too many hours watching The Queen aka Jaclyn Hill blend her eyeshadow like she wasn’t even trying whilst using this brush. It’s the perfect blending brush; it’s soft, fluffy, and gets rid of any harsh lines in two seconds. It’s made with synthetic fibres and would also be handy to apply highlight to the brow bones and cheekbones. It’s a cult favourite for a reason.
Real Techniques Sculpting Brush, $12.65
My latest brush purchase, this one caught my eye with its flat, angled head. I’m as obsessed with contouring as the next beauty addict, and I just needed to try it! It’s inexpensive, incredibly soft and fantastic quality as with most Real Techniques brushes; they never disappoint. It works wonderfully with powder, as well as cream formulations (this and Soleil Tan de Chanel go beautifully together). I also love how versatile this brush is – try it with foundation, concealer (over larger areas i.e. whilst highlighting) or blush, and you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
