Who knew a little bit of coloured powder on the apples of the cheeks could liven-up your face and make you feel a million bucks? Blush is my favourite makeup item in the world, I could never have enough! It’s the one product that gets me really excited to do my makeup every morning; I love being able to decide what shade to wear each day. So when I saw Melissa’s post on her blog Loads of Lifestyle, I knew I had to participate. The tag was created by Kat from Kitsch Snitch and I’ve really enjoyed reading all about their favourites. Let’s get into it.
What colour blush suits you the most?
I feel like I can get away with most things, except for blue-based pink blush. I think peachy corals are especially flattering on me, as are red-toned blushes. I also enjoy a good bronzey blush.
Pressed, fo’ sho’! I can honestly say I’ve never tried cream blush because for the longest time (during my teenage years) I thought I had really oily skin and that I’d be a shiny mess; however, I no longer have oily skin (and I probably didn’t back then either) but I’ve just steered clear for some strange reason. Silly, I know! Loose blush just sounds like a disaster waiting to happen… the kind where you end up with damn blush on EVERY. SINGLE. item in your makeup bag because the stubborn lid won’t shut properly… No?
Favourite shimmery blush?
I adore MAC Mineralise Blushes, specifically Warm Soul and Love Joy. Recently, I have also been loving NARS Lovejoy. Nope, I can’t choose!
Favourite matte blush?
theBalm FratBoy, hands down. I also love it in the crease as a transition colour. I’m such a rule breaker. Oh and one that I haven’t had in my collection for that long – Tarte Exposed; a warm, rosey, mauvey nude.
Favourite cream blush?
Refer to question number two. However, I may or may not have a few ColourPop blushes on their way to me right now, and I’ve heard they’re fantastic, so watch this space!
Favourite drugstore blush?
I definitely need to explore the “drugstore” blush options a bit more; the only ones I own are from Essence and they’re alright for the price. I own three and whilst they’re pigmented and blendable, they seem to be inconsistent in longevity and can be chalky. My favourite, and the only one that performs exceptionally well, is a discontinued shade called Secret It-Girl, which I found in a discount bin for $1. It’s gorgeous on the cheeks! At the moment, I’m dying to try the new Max Factor Hourglass-looking blushes ‘cause they look quite promising.
Favourite high end blush?
My Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Palette. It’s so so beautiful and I adore each shade *insert love-heart eyed Emoji 973523*. They blend out beautifully on the skin and provide this lit-from-within healthy glow. Honourable mention to Becca Songbird and Sweetpea because the formula is ah-mazing and the shades are stunning! I’ve been wearing Sweetpea non-stop since I got it last month.
Favourite bright blush?
NARS Torrid. I love this one especially in the Summer with a bit of a tan, it’s glorious!
Biggest blush disappointment/regret?
This may get me in trouble, but MAC Melba. It was my first MAC blush. I don’t know what happened, but unfortunately it stopped working for me. Overtime it didn’t show up on my skin so well so I got rid of it (I tried wiping off the top layer with a tissue but it still wasn’t doing it for me). Now every time I see a photo of it I wonder if I should’ve given it a second chance… So dramatic LOL!
Best blush packaging?
I adore the simplicity of Tarte blushes, they’re so chic. But I adore the packaging of the NARS Virtual Domination Cheek Palette they released for the holidays last year. Monochrome and a huge mirror to boot!
What’s on your blush wish list?
Becca Wild Honey (if Jaclyn Hill loves it I need it), NARS Gilda, Becca Copper Shimmering Skin Perfector, Tarte Tipsy, Benefit Dallas, NARS Dual Intensity blush in Fervor and Clinique Cheek Pop in Cola Pop.
Number 1 holy grail blush?
Oh this is hard. It’s like having to pick out your favourite child. I’d have to say MAC Warm Soul because it’s the only blush I EVER actually finished and re-purchased. That’s a biiiig deal. But I’m torn because I’ve been loving Becca Sweetpea so much and the formula and colour are everything I long for in a blush.
This was so enjoyable to complete and it re-emphasised that I have an unhealthy blush addiction… but that ain’t gonna stop me!
Now it’s your turn – share your faves with me below. I’d love to know what you reach for and what you’d love to try!
