It’s August favourites time, and this month I have a nice mixture of new and old products I have been loving. Is anyone else getting ridiculously excited to start seeing all the holiday collections? I can’t wait! Now let’s see what’s made it in my favourites this month.
I recently reviewed the Hourglass Vanish Seamless Foundation Stick (review here), and I mentioned I couldn’t put it down. And I still can’t. I won’t go on and on about it as I have shared my thoughts in detail; but this is a beautiful full coverage foundation that feels lightweight and perfects the skin with very little product.
For the cheeks, on most days I couldn’t reach for anything other than the BECCA Split Pan in Amaretto/Prosecco Pop (review here), or the Marc Jacobs Beauty Air Blush Soft Glow Duo in 506 Flesh & Fantasy. On mornings when I don’t have a lot of time, I love the convenience of having my blush and highlight in one compact, so it makes sense to reach for the BECCA Split Pans. I love both of these shades and the way they look on the skin for everyday wear. The Marc Jacobs blush is a gorgeous nude shade that is also suitable for everyday wear. It’s a creamy texture that blends seamlessly into the skin, and it lasts all day.
Ah… to fall back in love with an old favourite. I don’t think there was a day in the month of August where I didn’t reach for my Kat Von D Shade & Light Face Palette (review here). I mix the two lighter contour shades to create a custom bronzer that isn’t too warm nor too cool. It not only brings life to my face, but it also adds some much needed definition. These powders blend like a dream and also last on my skin all day. On days where my eye bags are in need of some extra TLC, the banana highlighting shade comes to my rescue. This is a favourite of many for a great reason! It sets concealer down beautifully, and really brightens the under eye area.
My skin has been so dry due to the seasonal change. I had been trying the Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer Crème but it felt too heavy and drying on my skin, so off I went to take a look inside my makeup drawers. I realised I had been keeping a back up of the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer, so I decided to give it a whirl after a long time of not trying this formula. Well, I totally get why people are so crazy about this concealer. It has a super light texture, it blends easily, and it looks like skin! I like that it’s not a full coverage concealer; so it’s perfect for everyday.
Because of the dryness I’ve been experiencing, buffing in concealer with a brush (especially around the eyes) just wasn’t cutting it. I’ve always been one of those people who has always preferred brushes versus blending sponges, but my Beauty Blender has been getting quite the work out! It pushes in the product into the skin so seamlessly, I haven’t been blending my concealer with anything else.
When it comes to lip liners, I’ve been using the Marc Jacobs Beauty (P)out Liner Lip Pencil in 300 Nude(ist). Described as a cafe au lait, this lip liner matches my natural lip colour perfectly and it goes with every nude lipstick I own. It’s a unique gel formula that glides onto the lips with the utmost ease – there is no lip liner like it. It’s so comfortable I often wear it alone all over.
I recently did a Sephora haul (post) and picked up a bareMinerals Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lip Colour in the shade Om. I didn’t know what to expect from this liquid lipstick, so it was a very pleasant surprise. It has a cream-to-matte mousse-like texture and feels very comfortable on the lips – it’s a good one for those of you who can’t bear the dryness of matte liquid lipsticks. No prunes for lips here! Not to mention it’s a gorgeous nude for my skin tone. I do have to say it doesn’t fully set, but it doesn’t bleed either.
That is it for this month! What were some of your favourites for August?
