What beauty junkie doesn’t get majorly excited when the brands they love release much-awaited products? Even more so, when said products get nothing but brilliant reviews – surely I will love it too, right? Wrong. That’s where the excitement stopped for me. The disappointing release of the year goes to… the Too Faced Born This Way Foundation.
No one forgets their first… Mary Kay takes me back to my first dealings with makeup. My mum’s friend was a seller but eventually she stopped, and she gifted me a whole bag full of eye shadows – we’re talking at least 30 individual shadows! Alas, they were my very first. Back in the good old days, when the most makeup I’d wear was some Dove tinted moisturiser (do they even make that anymore?), mascara, black or blue eyeliner and lip gloss. I didn’t have an educated opinion on makeup back then, let alone actual makeup brushes – no no, I applied those Mary Kay shadows with my FINGERS. I was 15, and what a difference 10 years can make!
Marc Jacobs… beautiful fragrances, incredible fashion, quirky accessories, and now a successful makeup line. It’s hard to keep up! But if you’re wanting some designer items minus the super hefty price tag, some of his gorgeous beauty products may just tie you over; especially these gorgeous New Nudes Sheer Lip Gel lipsticks. The packaging is to die for, and the formula is not too shabby either.
Strobing, highlighting… whatever you want to call this “trend”, in my opinion, it is most certainly not phasing out the infamous contour. Is anyone actually over it? Personally, I have been contouring since before I had even heard of the word, and will be contouring till the end of time (#contourenthusiast #callmekimk). However, at the moment it’s a case of ‘another day, another contour kit hits the market’, no? It’s saturation at its best. The vast majority of products on the market are powder contour kits, and more recently we’ve seen an increase in cream products; but nonetheless, I definitely hadn’t come across a cream product in a stick format.
I’m the first to admit I’ve not mastered the art of blending. You won’t see any up-close shots of my eyelids on Instagram, nor will you see me rocking a crisp cut crease look. But that’s ok. My eyeshadow skills are average at best, and I am not afraid to own up to it. However, I might be on the road to soon being above average, thanks to the buttery smooth, easy-to-work-with shadows from Makeup Geek!
Hard to believe it, but there was a time when I hated matte lipstick. The few I had tried would drag on my lips and felt uncomfortably dry, so I associated a matte lip with an unpleasant experience. For years, I stuck to things that had a bit of slip. Until one day, I purchased MAC Velvet Teddy and my previous misconceptions quickly disappeared. Fast forward to today and matte is my lipstick finish of choice, and MAC does have one of the best formulas in the market, in a plethora of shades to suit everyone. When news hit that they were coming out with some new exciting shades as part of their Matte Lip Collection, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a few of them!
The wait is finally over – the L’Oréal Infallible Matte Foundation has finally reached Australian shores. Promising matte-but-not-flat, long-lasting full coverage, this foundation has so far exceeded all expectations. Want to know what I think about this new-comer so far? Believe the hype, friends. It’s real.
The beauty community went crazy when photos of the beautiful Hourglass bronzers emerged. If you follow me on Instagram (you better!), you would have seen a few photos of this stunning bronzer. Since posting the images, there hasn’t been a day I haven’t been asked how I feel about this product; so after vigorous testing and collecting my thoughts, here I am. In short, I love it. Period. Feel free to skip the rest of the review… just kidding!
Matte lip products can be a bitch. It seems to be something that is hard for cosmetics companies to nail, formula wise. Some matte products aren’t really matte and move around a lot, others dry your lips to the point they hurt. Some flake or just don’t seem to last… you get the drill! However, Bite Beauty have absolutely nailed this water resistant, matte lip formula – they’re unlike anything I’ve ever tried.
