We all have a type. There are certain notes that resonate with us, and ‘coincidentally’ show up in most of the fragrances in our stash. For me, nothing beats a warm, sweet but not sickly, classy perfume. From the moment I tried Jimmy Choo Illicit Eau De Parfum*, I was instantly hooked. It fits the description of my ideal scent perfectly.
This is my first Jimmy Choo perfume, but I am no stranger to their fragrance offerings. I still remember when the original Jimmy Choo perfume was released, my best friend and I instantly fell in love with it! Alas, it was soon to be her birthday, so I gifted her a bottle but never ended up buying one for myself. There have been a few more releases since, but if I had to tell you to buy one Jimmy Choo fragrance, I’d recommend this one. If I had to tell you to buy one fragrance this year, it would also be this one!
From the bottle to the decadent accord, Illicit radiates opulence. It was created to embody the spirit of the Jimmy Choo woman – alluring, hypnotic, audacious and innately feminine. I think they hit the nail on the head.
This gorgeous fragrance features top notes of ginger and bitter orange, mid notes of rose and sambac jasmine, and its base notes are a honey-amber accord and sandalwood. Together they form a modern floral-gourmand. On my skin, the honey-amber accord, sambac jasmine and rose are the prominent notes I can smell – from the opening to the dry down. The note of ginger gives it a touch of spiciness and edge, and plays harmoniously with the sweetness. At the very end of the day, I get a faint vanilla-like smell.
The sillage of Illicit is average which I like, as it’s non-offensive and quite office appropriate. It lasts around 7-8 hours on me.
The bottle itself is a work of art – it resembles the art-deco style of a multi-faceted crystal glass tumbler, finished off with a square silver top. It’s such a stand-out in my collection and looks beautiful sitting on my bed side table.
Illicit has no doubt been my go-to scent since I received it a few weeks ago – I can’t get enough! Often scents can be boxed into ‘suitable for daytime’ and ‘suitable for nighttime’, but this scent can be worn at all times of the day, all-year around.
If you love warm, floral-gourmands, and are a fan of scents like YSL Black Opium, Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb and Bon Bon, or Prada Candy; then you will absolutely love Jimmy Choo Illicit. I think it will be a very popular choice for Christmas! I only wish this came in a roller-ball so I could take it with me everywhere.
