Gulp… it’s August already. Mid-August to be more exact. I am struggling to comprehend where this year has gone, and why half of this month has already gone by! I was meant to post this weeks ago, but never got around to it and I wasn’t going to post it. But then I thought – why not? It might
encourage you to spend your money on things that you don’t need help you guys discover some new beauty treasures. So, here goes – my super late July Beauty Favourites – makeup and fragrance!
Starting with base products, I’ve already professed my love for the Urban Decay Naked Skin One & Done Hybrid Complexion Perfector and the Green Colour Correcting Fluid (read here). I don’t feel like there is much more I have to say about these besides they’re amazing, and you “need” them both. Ok. Thanks. Bye.
I have a major blush obsession and I’m not afraid to deny it; and it seems in the past year I’ve been on the search for the perfect natural flush. I’m pleased to say I’ve found it in TheBalm Balm Desert Bronzer. On my medium skin tone, this bronzer-blush hybrid provides a gorgeous flush of colour to the cheeks – you’ll see in the swatch below that it almost has a bit of rosiness to it. The texture is oh-so silky, and it does what I want a blush to do – it becomes one with the skin and looks super natural, plus it lasts through an entire day. I like to use my Urban Decay Beached Bronzer and then take Balm Desert over the apples of the cheeks – it’s a winner combination. Balm Desert contains some very finely milled shimmer particles, but it doesn’t emphasise pores and provides a beautiful luminous finish. This would make for a stunning bronzer for those of you with lighter skin tones – do swatch it if you get a chance!
Another product I can’t get enough of, is the Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured in Opal*. It certainly doesn’t look as pretty as it did in this photo anymore! If you like a more subtle highlight, or if you have oily skin, then this one is for you. I’ve never been one to wear crazy amounts of highlighter, I just don’t think it suits me too much. Plus, I live in tropical weather, where things can get a bit shiny quite quickly; so I’ve always been rather light-handed. This version of Opal suits me perfectly, because it adds a beautiful but subtle glow with a powder finish – a matte highlight, if you will. I love that it’s day time appropriate when worn alone, but can also be layered with a powder highlight for night wear. I also love that I can quickly pat it in onto the high points of my face, and the warmth of my finger (I don’t use a brush with this baby) gives me a really skin-like finish. It’s great for those with large pores and mature skin, too.
Onto the eye region… I didn’t think I’d like to use anything on my brows besides Benefit’s Gimme Brow and the Hourglass Arch Sculpting Pencil, but it appears I was wrong. The Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer* really shook things up in my brow game! I can totally see why this product has been getting so many rave reviews. It’s so easy to apply and achieve perfect, effortless brows. The formula isn’t too soft nor too hard, making it the perfect medium to apply product without having to apply a lot of pressure. While the triangular shape is not something we haven’t seen before, it’s a feature that I particularly like. The flat side is great to fill in the brows in just a few strokes, and the sharp tip allows for some detailed edges. I have the shade Ebony.
I have been a bit off mascara as of late, as I only seem to wear it on the weekends these days (thanks allergies and itchy eyes!). But when I have worn mascara, it’s been the Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara* which has quickly become one of my favourites. This mascara not only provides major volume (as the name suggests) but it also adds length and holds a curl beautifully. It doesn’t clump, smudge or flake off. I recently tried the mega-hyped Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara and this blows BTS out of the water!
The Nyx Lip Liner Pencil in 819 Soft Brown has been getting a major work out as of late – it’s getting smaller and smaller! For such an inexpensive lip pencil, it does an amazing job at defining the lip contours. I like this particular shade because it’s the type of warm terracotta nude that I’m into and it goes with so many lipsticks. I also like to put this all over the lips and apply a gloss on top (I wouldn’t wear it alone typically as it can be a little bit drying). It’s very pigmented and long-lasting. I have my eye on a few more shades!
I had to give the B. Balenciaga Skin* fragrance a mention. This fragrance is a fresh, woody scent with creamy floral undertones. Usually that wouldn’t appeal to me, but the notes just come together beautifully! B. Balenciaga Skin Eau de Parfum contains notes of Bergamot, Green Tea, Soya Bean and Lily of the Valley as top notes, coupled with Violet Leaf Absolut, Peony and Iris Root at the heart, and Cedar, Cashmere, Vetiver and Ambrette Seed at the base. The bottle also deserves a mention; I really like the unique bottle cap design, the blush tones and rose gold accents – trés chic.
These are the products I’ve been loving in June and July! I will try to not be too late with my August favourites, but I can’t make any promises 😉
