For the most part, July was laid back, in the sense that I took it easy on putting makeup on. I must admit, it felt great to step outside completely bare-faced, and to appreciate myself without worrying too much about what I look like. It’s been refreshing! So, when I went to plan this post, I froze – what have I been loving? Actually, a lot – not just during the month of July but in the past couple of months. I went from being blank, to having way too many things to talk about… standard. I decided to make this not just a monthly favourites, but also a collection of fab products in my stash I think deserve a mention.
I will stop rambling and get onto it – we’ve got lots to get through!
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer in Radiant Bronze
I reviewed this baby back when it was first released and I’m still gushing over it (read my review here). It’s undoubtedly an amazing bronzer and one that I keep reaching for; mostly because it adds warmth, luminosity and a touch of colour to the face all at once. It’s an incredible multi-tasker, and a no brainer for when you’re wanting to look alive without putting too much effort – a lazy gal’s best friend.
ColourPop Highlighter in Wisp
This bouncy, dreamy highlighter is similar to Becca Opal in colour. The texture is incredible and it has great staying power. I like patting it on my cheekbones or using it as a creamy base topped with a powder highlight for an intense glow.
ModelCo Lash + Line Superlash Mascara*
I love the mascara component of this product. It’s one of the best I’ve tried this year – the curved brush really grabs and coats each lash with the utmost ease. The formula is on the drier side, which is great – I don’t like ending up with mascara everywhere. The best part is sometimes I skip the eye lash curler all together, as this is enough. Two coats and I’m ready to go. It doesn’t smudge or flake, and really holds a curl. The liner I’m not a huge fan of (it bleeds… a lot), but I’d repurchase this for the mascara alone.
Makeup Geek Eyeshadows in Peach Smoothie & Creme Brûlée
I’ve been loving these two for natural, open and defined eyes. Peach Smoothie all over the lid, and Creme Brûlée blended on the crease and upwards with what’s left on the brush. It makes me look put together, without much effort. Soft, creamy, bendable. Definite needs in anyone’s collection.
Real Techniques Contour Brush
I haven’t gone a day (on makeup wearing days) without contouring the hollows of my cheeks, and this has been the only tool for me. I can’t put this brush down. Whether it be powder or cream, it’s just brilliant across the board. I would recommend the RT base set just for this baby.
Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer in Light Neutral
It’s hard for me to admit, but I’ve been reaching for this concealer way more than my NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer. I feel like a cheater! I’ve even been trying to purchase a darker shade (this one is quite highlighting on my medium skin), but it’s always out of stock at Mecca. This concealer doesn’t crease, it blends so easily, provides decent coverage and it’s really grown on me. Sorry, Françoise.
Smashbox Contour Stick
Amazing product to contour with, whether you’re a beginner or a pro. I really like the natural look this contour stick can provide, among other things (full review on the trio here).
Origins Clear Improvement Charcoal Mask
Ah… my skin has been hectic lately. It’s gone from dry to oily, to combination, and I just can’t seem to keep up. Blame it on the hormones. This mask has helped reduce irritated, flared up blemishes, shrunk pores and overall helped me control the oils in my T-zone and cheeks. Plus, considering I’ve been using it at least twice a week, the tube still seems full – oh yeah!
Lush Tea Tree Toner
Another skin saviour – really soothes the skin, removes dirt and oils my Clarisonic couldn’t get to, and leaves my skin feeling clean and refreshed. This is actually all empty now, but it’s a definite re-purchase.
Mecca To Save Face SPF30 Facial Sunscreen
I have often relied on my base of choice to provide sun protection… tsk tsk, I know. As I’ve been bare faced for a lot of the month, I had to find alternative ways and I remembered I had this product in the back of my cupboard. Well, I’m glad I dug it out, as it’s such a fantastic sunscreen! It is hydrating, non-greasy, and has an almost matte finish. It also makes for a great makeup base. I will definitely be purchasing the full size when I run out – so impressed!
MAC Velvet Teddy Lipstick
It’s like I’ve re-discovered and fell in love with Velvet Teddy all over again. It’s got to be one of my favourite lipsticks of all time. I love that it makes me look effortlessly put together in one swipe and it’s been living in my handbag for the whole month.
That’s it for July, folks. Sorry it was a long one! Share your favourites with me – post a link back to your blog or just leave me a comment!
