The following statement sounds a little strange and unbelievable as I read it back. Here it is: lately I have been extremely good at not buying makeup. I’m talking about not buying new makeup for a few months… what?! While I did have a good streak, all the beautiful new launches became too much to pass up. A moment of weakness was bound to occur, and before I knew it, I was on the Sephora website. A few moments later I found myself browsing the Kylie Cosmetics website (another strange and unbelievable statement). The result? A glorious makeup haul!
Let’s start with the item I’m most excited about – the Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick. I knew I wanted to try Hourglass’ newest offering as soon as I saw the promotional images. It promises a seamless 12 hour wear, the fluidity of a liquid, the coverage of a concealer and the weightlessness of a powder. That’s a lot of promises! While I was waiting for this foundation to arrive, I kept watching YouTube reviews and this made me very nervous… It’s a mixed bag, folks. But here is what I can tell you so far: I wore it for 9 hours today for the first time, and I am extremely pleased with it. I will continue to wear it for a couple of weeks before I give you a full review, so watch this space. I purchased the shade Beige (medium, warm undertone).
Words I live by: you can never have too many concealers in your collection. It’s like a game of trying to find the latest and greatest. Even though you have some solid favourites, you’re always on the look out for something even better. No? Just me? Well, I couldn’t pass up trying the Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer Créme, along with the Lock-It Setting Powder. I’ve worn both in the last couple of days, and I have to say the translucent powder is beautiful – so soft and finely milled! I’m still not sure how I feel about the concealer. It hasn’t been long, so I will keep you posted. In case you were wondering, I got mine in the shade Light 15 Neutral.
If there’s a brand out there that makes me weak at the knees, it’s Marc Jacobs Beauty. The moment I saw the Air Blush Soft Glow Duo blushes I knew I had to have at least one. In true form, I chose a neutral rosy duo – 506 Flesh & Fantasy, described as an ivory shimmer and “goddess” bronze. Basically, a winning combination. I really like that these blushes allow you to customise your look, depending on where you place your brush. You can go for a more sheer, luminous glow; or a more pigmented, dramatic finish. I couldn’t bring myself to ruin the beautiful pan with my brush yet, but I look forward to playing around with it.
Last item from Sephora was a last minute decision in the form of a BareMinerals matte liquid lipstick. The brand recently released a whole array of products as part of their GEN NUDE line – lip liners, lipsticks and liquid lipsticks; which boasts an impressive array of nudes for every skin tone. I chose to purchase the shade Om, a gorgeous caramel nude, after seeing it on Desi Perkins in one of her latest videos. It’s the perfect nude for medium skin tones and I don’t own anything like it in my collection, so I’m very excited!
I mentioned on Instagram that I was never really interested in purchasing anything from Kylie Cosmetics. Both the hype and the always-sold-out products made me stay away, but when I saw the Mini Mattes set released as part of her birthday collection, I thought it’d be a great chance of trying out some of her most popular shades. The set comes with Exposed, Dolce K, Koko K, Candy K, Kirsten and Leo. I also picked up a lipgloss in the shade Literally, which is a gorgeous neutral nude. I can’t wait to try these out in full and share my thoughts with you all!
Let me know what you’d like to see reviewed! What have you hauled recently?
