I’ve been a terrible blogger – I missed my September favourites… tsk tsk! In saying that, I probably didn’t have too much to share, so this month’s favourites will be a combination of things I’ve been loving in the past two months. Is anyone else excited for the end of the year? Christmas and New Years are just around the corner, and November is my birthday month! I’m working on a gift-guide, so keep an eye out. Now, let’s get into the favourites!
Sometimes I’m either early on a bandwagon, and other times I’m super late… there is literally no in-between! When it comes to the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation, I’m definitely late, and I’m also kicking myself for it. What pushed me to take the plunge was having the mega babe @Makeupby_Christina (look her up on IG!) do my makeup for a wedding in July and she used Sheer Glow on me. This is one stunning foundation, and you should try it out if you haven’t already! It provides a medium, semi-matte coverage that can be built to a serious full coverage. It’s the type of foundation I will reach for if I have a special event on, or if my skin is struggling and I need that extra bit of coverage. It photographs beautifully! I wear the shade Medium 3 Stromboli.
Onto some skincare, I’ve been loving is the Dermalogica Oil Free Matte Sunscreen SPF 30*. I’m so lazy when it comes to sunscreen, and always rely on the SPF of my foundation of choice to carry me through *shocked gasps*. That’s usually ok as I’m typically indoors most days, but recently I went away on a little holiday to Bali and I had to pack this with me. I have combination skin, so the name of this sunscreen is music to my ears. So, is it actually matte? Yep – it definitely is! It also makes for a great base before makeup. Oily skinned gals will love this for the warmer weather.
Early October I hit pan on my beloved Rimmel Stay Matte Powder and it crumbled into a million pieces. I was upset at the time, but this made me reach for the next best thing – the Kat Von D Lock-It Translucent Setting Powder, and boy oh boy, this powder is heavenly. Somehow it manages to: set my makeup beautifully, blur pores and imperfections, and keep me oil free for most of the day. Winner.
As I went to take this photo, I dug my fingernail on this beauty… *sobs quietly*. Moving on. I picked up the Tarte Amazonian Clay Exposed Highlighter recently, in my quest to own anything that Tarte names ‘Exposed’, as I love that blush so much. The highlighter? It is soft, creamy, incredibly pigmented yet it gives the most lovely and inoffensive lit-from-within type of glow. You can, of course, build up to a more opaque finish if you wish. I think this is the perfect “I-want-a-glowy-look-but-don’t-want-to-look-like-a-glitter-ball” type of product… and I love it.
My Exposed highlighter has been getting a work out, along with my Sigma F03 High Cheekbone Highlighter Brush*. This is my new favourite brush for the job! What I like about it is that it’s fluffy but firm enough that you can use it seamlessly with both pressed powders and creams. It’s synthetic, which I prefer. If you’re on the hunt for a new highlighter brush, then definitely check this one out.
I did a mini review on my Instagram @MissNewBeauty of this fab mascara I’ve been loving lately, and I stand by my initial thoughts. The Clinique Lash Power Flutter-to-Full Mascara* allows you to customise your look with the twist of the barrel – you can go from naturally defined lashes to super glam dramatic lashes. I love that this mascara offers so much versatility, you’re never stuck with just one look! The formula is fab, it doesn’t smudge, clump or flake. Sometimes I get very lazy with applying mascara on a day to day basis, simply because I can’t be bothered removing it at the end of the day. However, this Clinique mascara got me over that quickly, as I can easily wash it away in the shower with minimal effort. If you’re in the market for a new mascara, I highly recommend this one!
My partner went overseas for work in September, and when he asked the magical question “what would you like from duty free?”, I didn’t have to think twice! I asked for the Dior Lip Glow lip balm, but he quickly sent me a photo of a duo that also included the Dior Lip Maximizer, and I was sold! I had heard great things about this product, and I have to say it’s such a nice lip gloss! It plumps the lips nicely and smooths out any lines. It’s hydrating, non-sticky and makes my lips super soft. Yes, there are probably products on the market that achieve the same results and are nowhere as expensive, but I’m happy with this. I just have to keep it out of my everyday handbag or I’ll run out super soon!
I won’t rave on too much about the gorgeous YSL Mon Paris* perfume, as I’ve posted a full review here. Of course I had to include it in my favourites, as it’s been my go-to scent since the end of September!
