September has now come to an end – crazy! It’s been a bit over six months since I first started blogging back in April, and it was also my busiest blogging month, clocking in 10 posts which I am so proud of. I’ve learned a lot, not only about the blogging process but about myself; and most importantly, I met and interacted with so many of you, which was definitely the highlight!
September had me in a beauty product trance – I had so many newbies popping in left, right and centre; so it was a fantastic and full-on month of discovering new and exciting things! Just the way I like it.
I mentioned briefly that my skin had been having a really hard time lately, but ever since I started using La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo+, my break outs have become minimal which is amazing. Nothing was really working for me, so I’m glad I dug this baby out! I remember purchasing it sometime last year and using it twice and never really thinking much of it, so this was a bit of a discovery for me. It’s recommended for oily skin types with imperfections, and claims to unclog pores, reduce excess sebum and fight against marks. It has done everything it claims to, although it’s hard to tell if this was the sole reason for my fading scars, as I have also been using glycolic acid to speed up the process. It contains salicylic acid, and can be used as a serum at night time, and even before makeup.
Another skincare product that has made a world of difference has been the new Origins Original Skin Retexturizing Mask with Rose Clay. It’s made with Mediterranean rose clay and contains jojoba seeds that act as an exfoliator as you wash it off. I noticed a difference from the first time I used it – my skin looked more radiant and even, my pores appeared smaller and my skin was baby soft! I’ve been using it twice a week for the past 4 weeks and it’s now become my go-to mask.
When it comes to spring make up, I’ve been loving an extra serving of bronzer on the daily menu. I recently picked up the Too Faced Dark Chocolate Soleil Bronzer, which is on the warm side of things and looks great on olive skin tones. It’s matte, it smells like chocolate, it blends like a dream… what else could I want?!
Speaking of spring, nothing says spring more than a vibrant peachy blush. For me, the Tarte 12Hr Amazonian Blush in Captivating fits the bill perfectly. This matte peach blush is not overly pigmented which means you won’t end up looking like a clown, and it lasts on the skin for hours. I always seem to neglect it in the colder months, but it was about time I put it back into the rotation.
I recently hauled some gorgeous bits of makeup, and the Bite Beauty Butter Cream Lipstick in Pecan* was one of those items. It’s the perfect every day lipstick – smooth, creamy, very pigmented, and lasts for a decent amount of time on the lips. Amazing formula aside, the shade is what I love the most – a peachy brown nude, that goes with every look (even the peachiest of blushes!).
Another gem that won a permanent spot in my handbag recently, has been the Urban Decay Revolution High-Colour Lip Gloss in Liar. I LOVE THIS STUFF. At first I was like ‘eugh, I’m not really a lip gloss kinda gal, what if it goes to waste and I hate it?’. Well, this is not your regular lip gloss. For starters, it’s not sheer at all – like the name suggests it’s high-colour, meaning it packs a punch in the pigmentation department. It is not sticky like your regular lip gloss either. It’s slightly tacky but enough so that it hangs around for a bit (3 hours tops), whilst being super pleasant and comfortable to wear. Liar is a rose shade with a hint of brown, and it’s a MLBB shade for me. For something a bit more on the nude side, I want the shade Kinky next.
Early in the month I was lucky to receive a few shades from the Venice Collection by OPI, and the one that hasn’t left my nails in September was Purple Palazzo Pants*. It’s a pretty pink-based lavender purple – just beautiful for the warmer weather! Plus, the formula is creamy and very easy to work with. It’s a two-coat wonder, which I love.
One of my most used scents in September was Prada Candy L’Eau EDT. Le BF gifted me this perfume in late 2013, and I wore it so much at first but then I kind of forgot about it (if you’re reading this, soz). It was time to get re-acquainted, as I’ve recently been trying to downsize my perfume collection and go through the older bottles (I hate throwing out perfume that has gone off). Well, I’m glad I gave this some attention, as I’d forgotten how lovely it is! It’s a gourmand with a touch of citrus; refreshing, comforting and sophisticated. And perfect for both day and night.
I couldn’t help but give a non-beauty honourable mention to the Circa Home 1998 Mango & Papaya* candle that is slightly featured in the corner of these photos (OK, you can’t see it but it’s there, making the photo ‘smell’ pretty!). Something you didn’t know about me – I’m obsessed with candles. Come my birthday and Christmas time, my candle stash gets replenished (thanks friends and family!). I recently got to try this brand and wow – it’s potent but in the best possible way! It smells like summertime and happiness and I’ll be buying other scents soon.
