When it comes to seasonal beauty, I’m a true believer in wearing whatever you want regardless of what time of the year it is. But naturally, something about spring just makes me feel uplifted and I really look forward to swapping out my daily go-tos when the seasons change. The darker berry tones are replaced by beautiful peachy hues and bright nail polishes; the sultry, heavy scents are equally replaced for more fresh alternatives. I thought since we’re almost a month into spring, it’d be nice to share what I like to reach for on this glorious time of the year!
I’m all about a light to medium coverage base that feels weightless on the skin. My pick for the warmer weather is the IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream, which not only makes my skin look dewy and even, but it also boasts SPF50, which is amazing! For under eye concealing, I’m loving the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer – longest name ever, but completely lives up to it. A dusting of my current favourite bronzer Too Faced Dark Chocolate Soleil is a must to bring life and warmth back to the complexion, making it appear healthy and radiant.
It’s all about that peachy-glow life, baby! The three blushes I’ve been reaching for lately just scream ‘spring’. MAC Mineralize Blush in Warm Soul is undoubtedly my holy grail blush – it’s one you can always count on, as it is natural looking and goes with just about any make up look. It brings luminosity to the cheeks and is definitely a blush I will forever repurchase. For something a little bit more colourful, I opt for either NARS Torrid or Tarte Captivating, both gorgeous blushes that make your cheeks pop (in a good way) and look incredible with a bit of a tan on. Lastly, a generous dusting of Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal on the cheekbones for a lit-from-within glow. I really think Opal compliments the more bronzy looks spring and summer bring about, super pretty!
Keeping with the peach/nude theme, I can’t go past these four lip options. The Marc Jacobs Sheer Lip Gel Lipstick in Eat Cake is the perfect everyday lipstick that offers a sheer wash of rosy goodness. For a more nude option, the Rimmel London Kate Nudes Lipstick in #45* is a beautiful choice; also sheer and comfortable on the lips. This is my fave of the collection, but there are four other lovely nudes to suit every skin tone – I’ve reviewed the range with swatches here. For an effortless pop of colour, my loyal handbag companion for the past two springs has been MAC Ravishing, a Creemsheen lipstick in a vibrant coral hue; but its sheer pigmentation keeps it quite wearable and fresh for everyday. It’s a good one for light to medium skin tones! If ever in need of something more out there, the Maybelline Colour Drama Lipstick in Fab Orange offers a super opaque, long-lasting matte finish.
I am completely in love with these three shades from the OPI Venice Collection* – (L-R) Purple Palazzo Pants, Gelato On My Mind and Tiramisu for Two. It’s a creamy formula that is a breeze to apply, offering full opacity in just two coats. I always find myself alternating between vibrant hues and nudes, and these three shades haven’t left my nails for the past month and a half – I seriously haven’t reached for anything else! On a completely unrelated note, how do OPI come up with the cutest names?! I’d love to sit in on one of their product development meetings and have a brainstorm sesh. Ahem, moving on.
I had a few perfumes to choose from so I thought I’d keep it simple and opt for just two – I will do a separate post on my top 5 perfume picks for spring very soon! I never thought I’d be a fan of gardenia as the centrepiece of a scent’s composition, but Marc Jacobs Mod Noir* completely took me by surprise and won me over. I’ve already reviewed it in detail here, but essentially it’s a very fresh modern white floral – love! I fell in love with D&G L’Impératrice two years ago whilst browsing the Myer perfume section. It was the last one, so I panicked and bought it, but I never saw my local store bring it back… I don’t know if this has been discontinued, but I’ve definitely seen it available online. L’Impératrice has an ability to transport you into a summer daze dream; think of a tropical island, freshly cut fruits, cocktails… the good stuff! It has notes of kiwi, watermelon, rhubarb and pink pepper. It’s very sweet whilst being clean and incredibly mouthwatering.
What are some of your spring beauty faves you’re currently reaching for?
