Wow… my first The Empties post was four months ago – about time I emptied out my trash again! I feel like there is a lot of good stuff to talk about – lots of things I’ve already repurchased and will probably continue to repurchase until something better comes along. I’m also feeling so proud I managed to finish some makeup bits this time around too – some hurt the pocket to repurchase but I feel achieved non-the-less. So, let’s get started!
Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum
This is one of the first serums I’ve ever fallen in love with and I recently just got a brand new bottle after going without for a couple of months. Advanced Night Repair just works – it plumps, brightens and hydrates my skin and evens out my skin tone. It also helps with fading any scars and I feel like it helps keep break outs at bay. It really hurts my pocket but I love it and will keep using it for years to come! Repurchase? Already have!
Grown Alchemist Hydra-Repair Cream Camellia & Geranium Blossom
I think this is a fantastic every day moisturiser – it’s light weight, hydrating but not greasy and a great base for makeup. I really like it for the warmer months, and I also like that it contains an abundance of natural ingredients. I believe there is also a tinted version which I’d love to try! Repurchase? Yes, once I get through my every-growing moisturiser stash!
Grown Alchemist Age-Repair Eye Cream Tetra-Peptide & Centella
This one is a bit of a sore point… this tiny tube costed me $59.95 and it’s nothing special… ouch. The only thing it did was keep my under-eye area hydrated, but that’s about it. I think there are better options for far less out there. Repurchase? No.
Vaseline Intensive Care Spray Moisturiser*
I went through this really quickly, because once I started to use it I didn’t reach for any other moisturisers. It sinks into the skin quickly, smells really nice and does a great job at hydrating. It’s also super affordable, so you can’t go wrong. Repurchase? Yes.
La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel
I’m a little bit on the fence about this one. When I first started using it, it really dried out my skin to the point I couldn’t bear not to put on moisturiser right after washing my face. Eventually my skin adjusted and didn’t dry out as much but I realise that maybe it was too harsh and stripping for my combination skin. If you’re someone with super oily skin, then you will like it! Repurchase? No.
Toni & Guy Prep Heat Protection Spray
A really effective hair priming spray. It has a pleasant scent, doesn’t leave any residue or weight hair down and I do feel like it helps with frizz. I also think it’s helped reduce the amount of split ends I get. Repurchase? I’ve recently decided to branch out but I definitely would in the future.
Beauty Blender Cleanser Solid
This is my second empty tub and I am now onto my third. It makes the job of cleaning my brushes enjoyable if that’s even possible! It effortlessly removes stains and beads water so that your brushes/Beauty Blender dry quicker. I can’t fault the product, just wish it was cheaper. Repurchase? Already have!
It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream
I feel like I’m a broken record talking about this CC cream but it’s one of my all time favourite bases. If you’ve wanted to try it I would definitely recommend this sample size, as it’ll last you a very long time (a little goes a very long way). It provides full coverage, it lasts the entire day and it looks like skin – can’t ask for more! The only thing I wish is that there were more shades, as there are only three. I use Medium (I’m still at my winter lightest) but as soon as I get the tiniest bit of colour now that it’s getting warmer, it’s going to be too light and I’ll be between shades. Repurchase? Yes.
Designer Brands Absolute Lash Mascara*
This is one of the best affordable mascaras I’ve used in a long time! The brush reminds me of They’re Real except a little bit thinner and no ball end, but the formula is less wet, smudge-proof and doesn’t flake. It really separates, lengthens and holds a curl like a champ… all for a mere $14.95. Repurchase? Yes, when I get through the copious amounts of unopened mascara I’ve collected.
NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard
I actually made a very conscious effort of using this up – I’ve had it for well over a year and I promised myself I wouldn’t purchase any more concealers until I finished this one up! It’s a cult favourite and I’m sure most of you would have heard the rave reviews. I agree that it is fantastic, BUT I decided I might just like the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer just that tiny bit more. Repurchase? No. I still have another tube in the shade Ginger to use up during summer when I get a bit of a tan.
Benefit Gimme Brow in Medium/Deep
I haven’t tried that many brow-setting gels, but this one’s got me feeling like I don’t have to. Gimme Brow does everything I need it to do – it locks my brows in place for the entire day and adds enough of a tint/fill-in that I don’t have to use a pencil. Repurchase? Already have and will continue to unless I find a cheaper alternative!
Have you tried any of these? What have you used up lately? Let me know in the comments!
