There was a lot of anticipation surrounding The Parcel’s Marie Claire 20th Anniversary Edition box. Being a very important milestone for the publication, I was expecting this edition to blow us all out of the water with some incredible products; but unfortunately that was not to be the case. Once again, I received rather an unexciting box, filled with stuff that I’m not exactly dying to try.
This is my third The Parcel box. The Autumn Edit was my first, and I had nothing but praises. The Winter Edit, on the other hand, left me wanting more; so I was really hoping this special edition would be magnificent. Don’t get me wrong, I still think it’s a great service to subscribe to! The Parcel does offers excellent value for money, with its contents valued at over $100. But… they kept throwing the word ‘luxury’ around, and I don’t think any of the contents fall under this category. Let’s take a look at what was included.
John Frieda Frizz Ease Smooth Hydrating Shampoo & Conditioner – Full Size
When I picked up my package from the post office last Saturday, I noticed how heavy it was and this got me super excited. The excitement quickly died down when I opened the box and realised these two items were the culprits. Yay… more John Frieda… I mean, it’s not like we didn’t already get John Frieda shampoo and conditioner in the last edition. I guess this is a safe thing to include in a subscription box, as it’s handy to have extras in your bathroom cupboard. Regardless, not necessarily luxurious, and a little boring to include the same brand again.
MOR Rosa Noir Hand & Body Milk
I had seen this range on the MOR Instagram and the packaging design is lovely, as is the product. I wasted no time and used some of this on my hands, and the texture was lovely and the product was absorbed quickly. I can never have enough hand/body cream (I’m obsessed with moisturising) and I adore anything rose scented, so that’s a plus. Definitely a product I will get use out of, and the small size is convenient to throw into my purse when I’m on the go.
Redwin Coconut Balm – Full Size
Interesting inclusion. This is basically solidified organic coconut oil and is marketed as a multi-purpose balm that can be used on dry skin, bites, burns, cuts, etc. I put some on the back on my hand and it felt really nice, but being that it’s coconut oil, it can leave the skin feeling a tad on the greasy side.
St Tropez Gradual Tan In Shower Tanning Lotion
I’ve seen this product get quite a bit of hype on social media, but I didn’t know it hasn’t been released as of yet, so this is a bit of an ‘exclusive’. I think fake tan is a bit of a risqué product for a subscription box, and personally I’ve used fake tan twice in my life. It’s still a pretty unique concept – you’re supposed to turn the shower off, apply this evenly (although I don’t know how you’d apply anything evenly when you’re wet), wait three minutes and rinse it off. I haven’t decided if I’ll give this away or give it a try as of yet; the beauty blogger in me is telling me to test it out, though!
Clinique Smart Custom Repair Serum
I’ve never tried Clinique skincare before, so I am looking forward to trying this product. It’s supposed to be a multitasking serum that claims to understand your specific skin needs (how?!) and provides custom repair for damage. Amazing claims, no?
L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Lipstick – Full Size
I received the shade 144 Matte Oulala, a cool-toned fuchsia pink which doesn’t really suit my skin tone. I swatched the lipstick on the back of my hand and it seemed to glide on easily and very opaquely in one swipe. I’ll probably give this one to someone who will wear it.
Estée Lauder Modern Muse Le Rouge EDP
I love that they included a perfume – sampling new scents is always so much fun! However, they included a slip to claim this exact perfume sample at Myer in the Marie Claire magazine, so I already had it. It’s a really nice perfume, but again it would’ve been nice to include something different being that those who got their hands on the 20th Anniversary issue would have already gotten this.
That’s it guys! I’m so sorry for the overall negative undertone of this post; you don’t see much of it in this blog as I only like to talk about the things I love, but hopefully someone will find this helpful. To sum it all up: amazing value as always, but the products just weren’t that exciting to me personally. I’m sure some of you are reading this thinking “gosh, this is so good, what is she on about?” but I think the 20th Anniversary Edition box could have been so much better.
Have you signed up to The Parcel? What did you think?
