There’s nothing I like more than a favourites post. It gets me thinking about the products I reach for the most and those I couldn’t be without – so much makeup appreciation! This one is extra special, because it’s a collaboration with my lovely friend Sorren from Young Mum Stuff – yay!!! I highly recommend checking out this beauty’s blog, and Instagram feed. They’re both perfection – you’ll find a mixture of beauty, lifestyle, home decor, recipes, and lots more! She’s got an impeccable taste in makeup, so be sure to check out her Top 10 Makeup Favourites too!
Trying to pick your favourite primer, foundation, concealer, setting powder, blush, bronzer or contour, eyeliner, mascara, eyeshadow palette and highlighter can be stressful (!). Any beauty junkie would definitely have more than one in each category, so choosing is like discriminating against your other babies! But, I did it, and here they are – my top 10 makeup favourites! My top 10 for the moment, at least, as the search for something better never really ends (commitment issues).
If the bottle’s (almost) emptiness below isn’t much of a giveaway, I love and use this every day. It’s nice and moisturising, takes the redness down a notch, and makes my makeup sit so nicely through the day. It’s made it into my monthly favourites before, and I need to repurchase it asap!
This one is definitely a HG for me. Medium but buildable coverage, luminous finish, wears beautifully as the hours go by, and also photographs really well. I owned Lasting Silk previous to this one and loved it too. The hype is real peepz! Just a shame it’s so damn pricey. For a cheaper alternative, the Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation has some similar attributes.
Another Holy Grail, I’ve talked about this one in a monthly favourites also. I own it in two shades, Custard and Ginger (one for highlighting and concealing spots). Fantastic coverage, great longevity and doesn’t crease on me. Love. For a more affordable alternative, try the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer.
I’ve gone through around 3 or 4 of these bad boys. So, I guess you could say it’s a favourite. What I love about this powder is its ability to reduce shine, lock foundation in place and provide a little bit of coverage in a way that skin still looks like skin. I’ve never found it cakey at all, and I often use it alone as a powder foundation on days I just want to even out my skintone.
What a beauty. Picking a single blush product was proving way too difficult for this self-acclaimed blush addict. I cheated with this one because I get three blushes in one product. I love each shade; they add a gorgeous, luminous flush of colour. My favourite is Mood Exposure (mauve shade on the right). They’re fantastic quality and I highly recommend Hourglass blushes. For a wallet-friendly alternative, try Max Factor Creme Puff Blushes.
I haven’t put this palette down since I got it. The hype is, once again, very real. I can’t say there is a single shade on this palette I don’t use (although some get more loving than others). I use the top highlight shades to set my concealer (middle), highlight my chin or note and clean up my contour (right and left shades). I use the bottom left and middle to contour, and the darkest shade to bronze up the face (I often mix these for both purposes as I see fit).
A nice, standard brown eyeliner. I’ve gone through a few of these, as well as the Eye Kohl eyeliner in the shade Teddy and they last well on my eyelids through the day and don’t smudge. There probably are drugstore alternatives out there that are just as good at a fraction of the price!
One of the first mascaras I recall using, loving, and repurchasing time and time again. It effortlessly lengthens and provides lots of volume; it holds a curl and best of all – it doesn’t flake! It’s one of those mascaras that you can slap on without a lot of effort and you can instantly see a difference. Can’t go wrong with this one!
Just look at this beauty! It’s got all of my favourite kinds of shades – warm and neutrals! Yes, a couple of shades do lack a bit of pigmentation but for the most part, this palette is fantastic quality and I’d still recommend getting it.
This is the most amazing highlight of LYF! Sometimes, beauty bloggers tend to exaggerate when they find a product that exceeds every expectation. But, I am not exaggerating at all when I say everyone needs this. Besides the usual top of the cheekbones, I love dusting it all over the face when I want gorgeous glowing skin. It’s such an effortless, lit-from-within glow.
I hope you enjoyed taking a peak at some of my favourite makeup items! I totally forgot to include my all-time favourite makeup product – lipstick – but perhaps I will get to that in a separate post; too many to mention! Don’t forget to check out Sorren’s Top 10 for some of her holy grail products.
