Ah… Winter. The days get shorter, our skin resembles that of an iguana, our lips crack; and suddenly, leaving the comfort of our warm beds in the morning is nothing short of torturous.
Without any warning, it seems, the warmth of the sun on our skin is a distant memory. “I will never take another Summer day for granted”. I trust this is an accurate representation of most Australians at current!
However, makeup and some pretty nail polish definitely make this part of the year a little more bearable! I will show you the shades of beauty products I reach for the most during the colder months. Ultimately, though, wear the hues you feel most comfortable in – whether that be a deep berry shade or a hot pink! There are no rules.
The beauty of these five lip products is they’re all satin/matte finishes, but in some of the creamiest, long-lasting and most comfortable to wear formulas.
NARS Audacious Lipstick in Jane
A beautiful burnt orange colour with a hint of brown, that just screams autumn/winter! It is opaque in a swipe and provides a satin finish.
If you’re into MAC lipsticks, I am sure you’ve heard of this one before! It’s the perfect transitional shade, and another one that became popular thanks to Kylie J. It’s a mauve dusty rose with a matte finish and perfect for everyday.
Anytime of the year is great to wear a fab nude lipstick. Spirit by MAC became my favourite at first swipe. It’s a beige brown shade with a tiny hint of pink, and a satin finish. It goes with every single look you could think of! For reference, t’s a hint darker than Velvet Teddy.
Maybelline Colour Drama Lipstick in Berry Much
Berry hues are especially gorgeous at this time of the year, and Maybelline offers the perfect matte formula for winter; as this lipstick in the pencil form is super creamy and won’t highlight any dryness on the lips.
ColourPop Lippie Stix in Pitch
Chocolate. Luscious, dark brown chocolate is what I think about when I see this shade. For those who aren’t scared of something a little more vampy, Pitch by Colour Pop is perfection! I’ll show you what it looks like on above.
Time to ditch the peaches, oranges and bright pinks, and switch them for some mauves, dusty pinks and plums.
Tarte 12 Hour Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed
A mauve-nude matte blush that goes with anything; this blush is super long-lasting (as the name suggests), and provides such a lovely flush of colour!
Max Factor Creme Puff Blush in Lavish Mauve
A cheaper and more accessible blush than Exposed, this offers the same mauve-nude wash of colour, but with a beautiful sheen that provides a bit of a glow to the cheeks. Wears and lasts decently.
theBalm Cabana Boy
This is a satin raspberry shade with a slight red undertone. It provides a luminous sheen that brings life to the cheeks. The quality of theBalm blushes is undeniable; this baby is so finely milled, wears evenly and lasts for hours.
theBalm InStain Long-Wearing Staining Blush in Pinstripe
This blush is the perfect plum – it’s also a satin finish with red-ish undertone; it may look similar to Cabana Boy but they actually swatch quite differently. This blush offers a TON of pigmentation… I’m talking about, you slightly place your brush over the powder and you’ll still have too much product. Dabbing some on the back of the hand is essential, but despite this, the formula is fantastic.
Becca Mineral Blush in Sweetpea
Something to break away from the mauvey-purple shades, Sweetpea is my absolute favourite. It’s the perfect transitional shade in a blush – it’s described as a rose plum nude but to me this is a blush that’s primarily a nude brown with a hint of orange, and very fine gold specks that aren’t exactly detectable on the skin, yet manage to bring life. The texture of this blush is just gorgeous, it blends like a dream and is long lasting.
Are you still with me? If you are, then hats off to you! Thanks for sticking around. These are my picks for winter-perfect nails.
Maybelline Super Stay Gel Nail Colour in Mauve On, Surreal & Rose Poudre
These are my favourite nail polishes at the moment. With a top coat, I get a wear of 5-7 days with minimal chipping. I sit at my computer for work and type away every day and chipped nail polish is inevitable, so this is incredible for me. Mauve On is pretty self explanatory, I love it during the cold months. Surreal is such a unique shade of blue and my favourite out of all of the polishes in this line (I own most). One of my most used nail polishes and I have to repurchase soon! Rose Poudre is a lovely dusty pink and will suit all skin tones.
Revlon ColourStay Gel Envy in 500 Ace of Spades
This gun-metal dark grey has such a unique depth to it. I don’t do black nail polish, in fact, this is the closest I’ll get and I love it. I save it for when I’m feeling a bit vampy and adventurous!
Rimmel Salon Pro in Oh, Mr Darcy!
First of all – isn’t that the cutest name ever?! Second of all, this is the perfect nude taupe shade and one of my most used nail polishes. I got it on Anna’s (from Vivianna Does Makeup) recommendation and I never looked back.
That concludes my makeup and nail polish picks! The next post will be about skincare essentials as well as fragrances. I will talk about moisturisers, lip balms, and more.
What are you loving this winter?
