Ah, Paris. Known as the City of Lights, but also as a city to fall in love with – and how could you not, with its twinkling lights and eternal elegance. Can so much beauty be captured in a scent? If anyone could do it – and do it well – it’s French fashion powerhouse YSL. After all, they know a thing or two about Paris. Riding off their Black Opium success, YSL’s newest offering Mon Paris*, offers a modern warm sweetness that is sure to enamour.
Mon Paris is a celebration of Paris and love. It starts with a gorgeous bottle with pink juice, wrapped in a stylish black bow with a gold YSL accent. Described as a fruity floral chypre, the fragrance’s top notes include fresh strawberry, raspberry, pear and bergamot. White florals are at the heart, with jasmine, peony, citrus blossom and moonflower; and the base consists of musk, patchouli and amber.
The opening of this scent is deliciously juicy, as the fruity notes of strawberry, raspberry and pear make a refreshing first impression. Then the white florals make an abstract appearance – I can’t distinguish any in particular, rather they combine into this beautiful bouquet of florals. The dry-down is where the sensual musk, patchouli and amber really come out to play. The fragrance settles into a smooth, vanilla-like sweetness that is rather comforting. It’s on the tamer side of sweet – the perfect balance, if you will.
The longevity is moderate; I can still get remnants of the scent at the end of the day, but certainly not the next day. Sillage is also moderate which I prefer, as it’s non-obtrusive and office friendly.
Mon Paris is a gorgeously-feminine concoction of vibrant fruits, classic white florals, sweet cotton candy and smooth vanilla. It’s modern and elegant, yet sensual and flirty. A scent you could wear to any occasion.
If you like fragrances such as Black Opium, Lancôme La Vie Est Belle and Viktor & Rolf BonBon, then Mon Paris is a sure winner. Definitely one for the Christmas wish list. Go on – forward this review to your significant other, nothing like a little hint and nudge!
